About Us
Students at Bruce-Monroe Elementary School at Park View (BMPV) are provided with a rich dual language experience.
BMPV’s early childhood program features full Spanish immersion in six mixed-age classrooms of three and four-year old’s. Teachers utilize Creative Curriculum to deliver highly engaging, thematic units incorporating all the components of early literacy, mathematics, language, science, social-emotional skills, and the arts.
In kindergarten through second grade, students alternate between English and Spanish teachers each day. In grades three through five, students switch between Spanish Literacy, English Literacy, Math and Science. Key elements of our curriculum include Responsive Classroom, Eureka Math, Teachers College Units of Study in Readers and Writers Workshop, FUNdations word study program, and DCPS Social Studies and Science Units.
Teachers collaborate in grade level teams and with special education teachers, a speech and language pathologist, an occupational therapist and mental health providers to reach the needs of all of our learners. Students have weekly time in art, music, physical education, mindfulness movement, and project-based learning where they engage in activities aligned to grade-level instruction.
Bullying has become a serious issue with young people nationwide. It affects students at every level, from elementary to high school. In an effort to proactively address the issue of bullying the District of Columbia Public Schools has created a Bullying Prevention Policy. The policy lays out clearly, the definition of bullying and the steps required by schools to address it. The entire policy is available to download below. Click below for more information.
